What are the tips for choosing a nozzle for a surface mount technology (SMT) placement machine?

As is well known, the SMT placement machine nozzles on the market are diverse. They can be classified by material into tungsten steel, diamond steel, ceramic, plastic steel, plastic, aluminum, iron, etc. By shape, there are round holes, square holes, V-shaped ones, etc. By size, there are even more types. How to choose the suction nozzle is a problem that many SMT newcomers want to pay attention to. Here, Baoxun Machinery would like to share with you some tips on choosing nozzles for surface mount technology (SMT) machines:

• A. Tungsten steel nozzle: Tungsten steel nozzles are sturdy and durable, but they tend to turn white easily. Friends who are not afraid of the trouble or new SMT users can choose tungsten steel nozzles. If they turn white, just use an oil-based pen to apply it, and they can still be used.
• B. Ceramic suction nozzles: Ceramic suction nozzles never turn white, but they are very brittle and prone to breakage. Careful use can prevent or reduce the occurrence of fractures.
• C. Diamond steel suction nozzle: Sturdy, practical, and never turns white, but extremely expensive and not cost-effective.
• D. Rubber nozzle: When the surface of the material is uneven or the material is sticky, a rubber nozzle is suitable. However, the lifespan of a rubber nozzle is not long. It is recommended to purchase more rubber nozzles as a spare when ordering rubber nozzles. When the nozzle is worn out, you can directly replace it with a rubber nozzle yourself.

For standard-sized materials, the specifications of the suction nozzles are basically fixed. Taking Samsung SM as an example, 0805 material corresponds to CN065 suction nozzles, 0603 material corresponds to CN040 suction nozzles, etc. When some materials are neither too big nor too small and have strange shapes, it is necessary to customize suction nozzles.

The shapes of the suction nozzles include square holes, round holes, V-slots, etc. Custom-made suction nozzles usually select flat suction points based on the shape of the material. Some are made into elongated suction nozzles that extend into the concave plane of the material for suction. Some are made into a square shape according to the edge of the material. Some have flat ends but an uneven middle, and a bridge needs to be built. Some materials are sticky and difficult to discharge. In such cases, some grooves should be made in the wall of the suction nozzle or a rubber head should be made.
